today announces her fifth studio album ‘False Dogs’, out February 19th 2027 via Chrysalis Records.
Arriving almost three years after her last effort ‘Big Sigh’, the 12-track collection captures Marika ruminating on mid-thirties transitions. The Hampshire-born artist wrangles with the expectations we measure our lives against and undercuts them with glimmers of light, with delicate songwriting juxtaposed against expansive production, and haunting vocals fans have come to love her for.
Entirely self-composed, ‘False Dogs’ was constructed instinctively at Marika’s East London studio, followed by a ten-day stint at Ramsgate’s Big Jelly Studios (aided by previous collaborator Charlie Andrew and Polly Mackey aka. Art School Girlfriend, Hackman’s wife).
Making use of the converted chapel’s roomy acoustics, the sound of the Kent coast can also be heard in field recordings subtly peppered across the record.
“I think this truly is the first record that I have fully inhabited my creative skin right up to its edges,” says Marika.
Alongside the announcement Marika shares the album’s string-laden opening track 33’, a song which grows in stature and resonance, explicating the passage of time from 17 to now. Marika worked with a children’s choir on the track, portraying a shadow character who tells her to ‘keep pushing’, despite being immobilised by both nostalgia and fear of the future.
Marika has also announced her biggest ever UK and European tour for 2027, commencing at Royal Festival hall February 26th.
