Marika Hackman has announced new album ‘False Dogs’ with the tender single ‘33’ and details of her biggest UK and European tour to date.
Set for release on February 19 via Chrysalis Records, the record marks the fifth studio album from Hackman, and explores the beauty and anxieties that come with the mid-thirties malaise. Pre-order it here.
Across the 12 songs, the singer plays almost every instrument, including guitars, piano, drums, bass, mandolin and synth. It was constructed from a time of experimentation at her East London studio, and completed at a 10-day stint at Ramsgate’s Big Jelly Studios.
As a result, the sound of the Kent coast is subtly heard in the backdrop of the record, and it feels fitting alongside the themes of nostalgia, growing up, and pushing through moments of self-doubt to seek out a brighter future.
“I think this truly is the first record that I have fully inhabited my creative skin right up to its edges,” she shared.

Today (Wednesday October 14), the first taster of the record is out in the form of opening track ‘33’ – a bittersweet single that tackles the root of the album itself, and how we all have an innate nervousness when it comes to our futures.
“’33’ grapples with the dull ache of nostalgia, the apprehension of the future and the celebration of the moments in between – keep pushing, it’s worth it,” she shared.
The song explores the passage of time from 17-years-old into the 30s, and features a children’s choir on the track. Check it out below alongside the new music video created by JOFI Films, and the full album tracklisting.

Hackman’s fourth studio album ‘Big Sigh’ was released in January 2024. In a four-star review, wrote: “The result is an excellent follow-up to the breakthrough that was ‘Any Human Friend’. Hackman raises the stakes in her music in a way that feels natural; it is conceptually bigger and more creatively mature, while the songcraft makes this transition feel earned.
“If ‘Any Human Friend’ was the rebound, ‘Big Sigh’ feels like the crash after the feelings you’ve been ignoring catch up to you — and it’s a defining moment for one of the UK’s most intriguing songwriters.”
Since then, the singer has released a new version of her song ‘Skin’ with a guest feature from Laura Marling. The original song featured on Hackman’s debut album ‘We Slept At Last’, which dropped 10 years ago.
