Madra Salach Announce Debut Album ‘Gorta’

Irish band will release their debut album ‘Gorta’ on January 15th.

The Dublin six-piece are a phenomenal live proposition, blending a deep awareness of traditional music with daring, scorchingly emotional arrangements. Moving from crunching, punk-adjacent thrash through to plaintive folk melodies, Madra Salach are an intense yet gripping proposition.

Debut album ‘Gorta’ has just been confirmed, and it was constructed in New York alongside producer  in New York, whose recent credits include Westside Cowboy and Cameron Winter.

Named after the Irish word for “hunger”, it’s a record that contrasts historical pain with contemporary struggle.

“I usually write from personal experience,” suggests Paul Banks, the group’s frontman and lyricist. “I try not to go too big-picture. I can tap into the emotions that way.”

“The ideas of longing and yearning, all the kinds of hunger, they slot into where we are as 21st century Irish people. The more I’ve thought and written about Irishness, the more I’ve seen how strange a history and a position and a culture we have.”

‘Gorta’ will be released on January 15th – pre-order it here.
