"Free Byrd" follows Konigsberg's 2022 album made in collaboration with Nate Amos of This Is Lorelei/Water From Your Eyes under the name My Idea. Introducing a new era for Konigsberg, the track was made after working with longtime friend and collaborator Hugo Stanley (Palm, Frankie Cosmos), who joined in on production and instrumentation.

“Free Byrd” was written almost 4 years ago in Central Park on one of those giant rocks," Konigsberg says. "I played it for my friend Greta that same day. When I finished, this high school girl sitting nearby turned around and said, “Is that a real song?” I said, “Yes, but I just wrote it”. And that was “Free Byrd”’s entrance into the world.
