Lesley Manville is set to lead the cast of upcoming Cold War thriller Winter of the Crow – and Radio Times can exclusively reveal some first-look artwork and imagery for the film.
The movie – which comes to UK cinemas on Friday 16 October – sees the acclaimed Sherwood and Phantom Thread actor star as Joan Andrews, an academic who gets caught up in political unrest when she travels to Warsaw in 1981.
In the new poster – which you can see below – Manville can be seen taking a polaroid picture with a concerned look etched on her face.
Meanwhile, a tank can be glimpsed in the background in what appear to be severe winter weather conditions.
Based on a short story by Nobel Prize winning author Olga Tokarczuk, the film begins with Joan visiting a Polish university only for a violent political protest to erupt.
The official synopsis teases: "Caught up in the ensuing chaos, she witnesses a brutal murder by the secret police and captures the evidence on her Polaroid camera.
"Now trapped behind the Iron Curtain, Joan is thrust into a deadly game of espionage involving student rebels and government operatives, where no one can be trusted and the consequences could spiral into World War III."
In addition to Manville, the cast for the film also includes Strike star Tom Burke as well as Polish actors Zofia Wichłacz and Andrzej Konopka. It is directed by Kasia Adamik from a screenplay by Sandra Buchta.
Manville and Burke's character can be seen in an exclusive still at the top of this page, while the second of two first-look images (above) sees Manville's character appearing to make a run for it.
The film had its premiere at the 73rd San Sebastián International Film Festival almost exactly a year ago and has so far been met with a good response – with all seven reviews currently on Rotten Tomatoes positive.
