will be the band's first release via their own label, Damage Limited Records. It's their sixth album and first independent release, following 2022's Reality Cheques.
Album opener "Great White Lies" arrives as the first preview of the collection of songs. Discussing the track, singer Tom Hudson says: "This track came as a bit of a 'lightbulb moment' for us early on in the writing stages and ended up being a blueprint sonically, opening up the creative floodgates for the rest of the album. Initially, it was just a loop of the bassline and drums which we then jammed over with abrasive, push-and-pull fuzzed up guitar lines."
arrives after a period of time in which the band had to step back and regroup before they could return to writing again. "We'd been locked inside a house party that had got wildly out of hand," they explain. "Strangers had wandered in, taken what they wanted and left the place a mess. We've spent the last few years cleaning it up, changing the locks and making sure next time it's invite only."
They chose to go back to being a DIY band, experimenting within their own space before recruiting producer James Kenosha, who recorded some of the band's earliest singles and their self-titled debut. The album chronicles many of the changes that Pulled Apart By Horses endured, delving into their feelings around uncertainty, anxiety, betrayal, ego, insecurity, becoming parents, getting older, technology and social media.
"There's a raw honesty to it," they say. "We're not trying to be anything else. It's just us having our best shot at expressing ourselves after everything we've been through and everything we've learnt."
Ahead of the release, Pulled Apart By Horses play Mutations Festival in Brighton on 24 October, Kirkgate Community Centre in Shipley on 4 December and Handmade Festival in Leicester on 5 December, to be followed by shows in Glasgow, Leeds and London in February.
