Led Zeppelin’s iconic epic ‘Stairway To Heaven’ soundtracks the first trailer for Greta Gerwig’s adaptation.
Originally published in 1955, C.S. Lewis’ The Magician’s Nephew was the sixth of his seven novels, but the story takes place before the events of The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe.
“With , Academy Award–nominated filmmaker Greta Gerwig will sweep you away on a fantastical adventure and leave you forever changed. The epic film will travel back to the origins of Narnia, in the first-ever adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew. As a lifelong fan, Gerwig is beyond thrilled to bring her singular vision to this beloved world,” reads a press release.
Gerwig’s take on The Magician’s Nephew will star Emma Mackey as The White Witch, Daniel Craig as The Magician and Meryl Streep as the voice of Aslan with David McKenna, Beatrice Campbell and Carey Mulligan also in the cast. Check out the glam rock trailer below.
“I was a child when I first read The Magician’s Nephew, and I fell in love with the gorgeously improbable but completely brilliant concept of a cosmic lion singing the world of Narnia to life,” Gerwig said in a statement “I didn’t know that I would grow up to make films, but a universe built out of music is an idea that always lived in my heart. It is the honour of a lifetime to be asked to imagine it into being.
“Because of C. S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia, I believed in magic and hidden worlds and adventure,” she continued. “I believed that anywhere could be enchanted and that anyone could be swept up into an epic. That wonder and awe was available to everyone, even ordinary people like me … It transformed me.”
Speaking earlier this week at a press event, Gerwig revealed that she met with Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant and Jimmy Page in order to get ‘Stairway To Heaven’ in the movie.
“I was so moved that they allowed me to use this song,” she explained, comparing ‘Stairway To Heaven’s themes of “spiritual discovery, enlightenment and the possibility of losing one’s way” to ideas that run through The Magician’s Nephew (via ). “They [also] love C.S. Lewis,” she added.
will launch in cinemas on February 12, 2027 before arriving on Netflix on April 2.
