London artist has shared ‘my own fairytale’ on September 28th.

Out via Parkwuud Entertainment and distributed by Roc Nation, the 12-track collection is the experimental artist’s deconstructed take on a dark Disney-esque soundtrack channelled through ambient, noise, grime and R&B.

The work explicates Klein’s double life; to this day her family does not know about her long-standing musical career. Klein’s voice breaks through in the latter half of the album, voicing the want to connect with family and herself.

The album features prelude single ‘man in the mirror’, a nocturnal dirge dissecting how Klein understands herself, gender, and fitting into society.

‘my own fairytale’ is another cog in a high-volume artist’s career, perhaps Klein’s most introspective to date. Last year, she released ‘sleep with a cane’, a UK rap record recast as an ambient folklore tape.

Toying with genres and mediums, Klein has worked with the likes of such as Fred Moten (who wrote the liner notes for Harmattan), Björk, MIKE, Vivian Oparah, Ecco2k, Dean Blunt, Rome Streetz, Jawnino. Oscar Award nominee Mica Levi, Caroline Polachek, Wu Tsang, Josiane M.H Pozi, Diamond Stingily and the Turner Prize-winning artist Mark Leckey.

After her 2018 artist-in-residence and musical commission of Care at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in London, Klein returns once again to the cultural centre on September 30th for her headline show. Get your tickets .
