Katie Gregson-MacLeod Shares Heart-Rending Single ‘Sometimes’

today shares a new single, ‘Sometimes’, the fourth number to be lifted from her debut album ‘Albatross’, out November 6th via Matt Maltese’s Last Recordings on Earth.

The folky vignette ‘Sometimes’ follows previous tracks ‘’, ‘’, and lead single ‘I Don’t Think Of Kissing You’, ushering in an album predicated around theme of transformation.

Katie shares:

“This is a song about wanting that could have just been a love song had certain pieces fallen into different places. Like many songs on this record, the idea of something just out of reach was potent for me when writing Sometimes. It’s easy to romanticise and inflate something that was never really within your grasp. To even ascribe to it the potential for curing whatever is presently weighing on you.”

‘Albatross’ chronicles Gregson-MacLeod leaving her major label deal behind, returning to the Scottish Highlands, and rebuilding her relationship to music and songwriting from the ground up. The album takes its title from Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, in which the albatross transforms from a symbol of good fortune into a burden carried around the neck.

It’s a fitting emblem for a record that turns its gaze toward wanting, and the strange weight of getting exactly what you asked for.

Fresh off the back of an intimate run of shows, with support from Bonnie Kemplay, Katie has been showcasing her new album to crowds across the UK. Tomorrow she’ll give the record its live debut for fans at a listening event in Inverness, with more special shows to be announced over the coming weeks.
