Kate Lawler weighs in on Big Brother trans row at Attitude Awards 2026: ‘My best friend is trans’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Big Brother: The Group Chat host Kate Lawler has addressed the recent in the house, defending housemate Twinks.

Her comments come after an “uncomfortable” conversation took place on the ITV2 show (4 October) about the trans community and gender identity.

Housemate , who is gay, came under fire for his “insensitive” remarks about gender expression, and Rochelle, who said she wouldn’t feel comfortable in a public toilet with a trans woman.

Speaking to Attitude at the 2026, in partnership with and electrified by , Lawler had “a lot to unpack”.

“My best friend is trans,” she shared. “She has been one of those people, one of those human beings, who has transitioned and over the course of transitioning had to use public toilets at a time when there were not gender-neutral toilets.”

“Just think about all the people like my friend who had to use public bathrooms and go into a men’s bathroom while transitioning and be surrounded by men who, the level of abuse, like just think about that.”

She said she was “disappointed” with Philip as an openly gay contestant, but celebrated newcomer Twinks, who is “flying the flag for not only herself and who she is but also to fly the flag for the trans community.”

“It’s 2026,” she said. Twinks was praised by several members of the community after defending trans women in women’s sport, gender expression and the government’s obsession with “genitals”.
