Canadian electronic duo will release new album ‘The Gore’ next year.
The incoming record is the pair’s first for five years, with ‘The Gore’ via City Slang.
The roots of the album stem back to 2017, when a close friend from Greenspan’s youth died. “He was that older friend that some young people find, who imparts all of his interests and tastes into any eager mind,” Greenspan says.
A period of recollection and reckoning followed, before Greenspan’s father was diagnosed with cancer. Facing up to familial commitments, and exploring his Jewish heritage, the resulting songwriting incorporates prayer melodies, with the group drawn to davening — the trance-like, wordless immersion of Jewish prayer — as a working method as much as a subject.
Out on February 12th, new single ‘Underneath The Moon’ has a beatific, contemplative edge fuelled by their exquisite electronic work.
Director John Smith helms the video, with Junior Boys commenting:
“This song is deeply inspired by the 2022 horror film Skinamarink. I used old tape loop techniques using a Tascam tape machine to achieve a number of the effects, to work as a sort of homage to the ephemeral quality of analog recording tech.”
