Bocca di Lupo and Mouth of the Wolf was recorded in July 2025 at Fonoprint Studios in Bologna, located on Via Bocca di Lupo, where the album takes its title.

"Never Like You Said", featuring Courtney Barnett on vocals, arrives as the first preview of the album. The lyrics arrived spontaneously in a single take in the studio, which the pair describe as "an emotional response to disingenuous people – a kind of closing of the door.

The recordings on the double album continue a nearly two-decade-long creative partnership between Van Wissem and Jarmusch, with the duo citing inspirations ranging from Sunn O))) and Swans to Terry Riley, Hildegard Von Bingen and Spacemen 3 for the work.

Bocca di Lupo features seven tracks, including the new version of "Only Lovers Left Alive," "Apology" (a new version of a pre-existing Van Wissem piece), and "Black Roses," an original poem written in Bologna and recited within its own musical setting. "Pour Deux Femmes" weaves a casually recorded conversation between Adriana Coppi and Veronica Mayrr into the background.

Mouth of the Wolf consists of two longer instrumental tracks, "In A" and "Massa Damnata," both created with two electric guitars and derived from their live performances. It is presented as a musically separate album with its own sleeve and artwork.
