Jimmy Kimmel reacted to the disastrous first day at work of the new White House press secretary, Katie Zacharia.
Jimmy Kimmel opened Tuesday evening's monologue with a rundown on Donald Trump's new White House press secretary, Katie Zacharia, who held her first press conference that morning.
"You know, Trump's been president for quite a long time now," Kimmel explained. "I think it's been about, what, 50 or 60 years? And in order to keep him awake and interested every six months they bring in a new fawning blond dolt to add to the rotation."
But though Zacharia is a fawning, blond conspiracy theorist, "things did not get off to a great start for Malibu Katie today," Kimmel said. "Her first briefing was brief. It was only 14 minutes long, but even in that short time she accomplished exactly what she was brought in to do, which is slobber a whole tube of lip gloss all over the president's behind."
For one, Zacharia opened the briefing by telling reporters that she wanted to work for Trump for "a very long time".
"She wanted to work for him for a very long time," Kimmel repeated. "And really that's all it takes nowadays. All it takes is that and dressing like you're about to announce pre-boarding on a Delta Air Lines flight."
Kimmel then played another clip of Zacharia reading stiltedly from her notes. "Her reading is good for an 11-year-old!" be joked. "He hired a fourth-grader to be press secretary."
Zacharia, he noted, is "a real piece of work" who "made her name calling Democrats pedophiles on social media and giving weight to Pizzagate. So I'm sure she'll immediately call for everyone named in the Trump-Epstein files to be punished to the full extent of the law."
Kimmel also showed numerous clips of Zacharia's work as a talking head for various fringe rightwing outlets, including the claim that no one would see The Odyssey as it was a "woke movie".
"Well, that woke movie went on to make $1.8bn," Kimmel retorted. "So we got a smart one here."
All in all, "Katie's first outing was, as her boss might say, a total disaster," he concluded. "I was impressed, though – you know how hard it is to become Trump's worst press secretary that quickly?"
To add to the embarrassment, after the briefing, Zacharia, allegedly a lawyer, responded to reporter questions about where she passed the bar exam with the unhelpful answer of "I moved to China."
Asked for clarification, the Trump administration refused to specify when or where Zacharia passed the bar exam.
"I have a feeling the only bar she passed is from Dry Bar," Kimmel quipped.
