saluted the life of with an emotional take on country classic ‘Jolene’ at his London show last night (August 25th).

The country icon passed away after experiencing cancer – was 80 years old, and had lost her beloved husband Carl Dean in 2025.

Tributes poured in for the insanely recognisable country queen, a rhinestone-peppered songwriting genius whose depth of humanity was all too rare in the modern era.

The White Stripes famously covered Dolly Parton classic ‘Jolene’ during the Detroit band’s rise, and guitarist Jack White threw it back on the opening night of two shows at London’s eventim Apollo.

Performing ‘Jolene’, the song moved from gentle lament to storming salute, with Jack White once more overhauling the song as a salute to a lasting influence on his work.

The London run continues tonight (August 26th) with a second show at eventim Apollo. Earlier this week, Jack White confirmed that some tickets for his UK run would be offered a £20 for students.
