Manchester-based artist will release their third album, ‘How to Glitch Under the Map’, on November 4th.

Out via Fixed Abode, the new album follows 2024’s You Said You’d Hold My Hand Through the Fire’ which was released via Hyperdub. It marks Iceboy’s return to Rainy Miller’s northern imprint for the first time since 2023.

“It just makes sense,” they say of returning to the label. “I think it’s on its way to becoming a legendary label, and now I have the opportunity to grow with it and become an integral part of defining it.”

The tech-driven collection explores the idea of clipping underneath the map in a video game; revealing the underside of a world that wasn’t designed to be viewed from there, a metaphor for Iceboy’s life and work.

Having moved between Bradford, Jamaica and Manchester from young, they ponder what it means to lose a sense of home, and find refuge in the strange liminal spaces of the internet. The album also reckons with how the internet’s original promise of anonymity and freedom has been swallowed by concentrated technological power and surveillance capitalism, reflected in the record’s web of convulsive beats that can feel weightless one moment and searingly industrial the next.

Iceboy shares a primer for the album in the form of ‘Reflect//Deflect (Ghost Image)’, a haunting grime-inspired cut centred on the permanence of ghost images, a phenomenon of old CRT televisions whereby an image burns into the screen after being static for so long.

The track’s Sinogrime-esque synth melody was made eight years ago, showcasing Iceboy’s cumulative rendering of past eras and signifiers into his their most holistic work.

“Over the years I would pick it up, reverse it, add some stuff to it and put it down for two years and repeat the process,” Iceboy explains. “The way it’s layered doesn’t make it feel like it was worked separately, it feels like it was all from one place.”
