have shared new song ‘lyre’.
The Philadelphia group seem to open out questions with every release, merging jagged post-punk with layers of ethereal shoegaze noise.
The four-piece tap in to new levels of intensity on ‘lyre’, opening up a fresh chapter in the process.
A crisp, clipped piece of guitar bedlam, the songwriting leans in to their melodic suss, with Her New Knife aiming for directness and simplicity.
Underneath this sits a crushing beat worthy of UNKLE’s back catalogue, conjuring trip-hop paranoia in the process.
“A simple and beautiful pop song,” the band’s Edgar Atencio says of today’s release. “Started with an arrangement I did on classical guitar, during a moment where I felt generally disaffected by music, writing this song and playing more classical guitar invigorated me, and this song was a catalyst for the final push towards finishing our album.”
“The drums are a love letter to UNKLE and Massive Attack. The glassy guitar parts are just Ben and I’s affinity for piano-like textures. There is also actual piano on the song. The song is not deep; the lyrics are essentially ‘I love music.’”
