Halle Bailey Unveils Deluxe Edition Of ‘love?… or something like it’

today celebrates the one-year anniversary of her debut solo album ‘love?…or something like it’ with a deluxe edition.

Featuring new five new tracks – including ‘leave me blue’, ‘don’t leave’, ‘love or something like it’ featuring , ‘potion’ and ‘way out’ – the deluxe edition of ‘love?…or something like it’ expands on the original’s exploration of desire, heartbreak and postpartum blues, balancing programmed soul with stately, classic songwriting. It’s a cathartic balm in the overcooked world of modern soul.

Of the deluxe edition, Bailey says:

“I’m so excited to finally share these five new songs with you. Five different perspectives on love, life, and the beautiful complexity of being human. Love is constantly evolving, and so are we. These songs are little pieces of my heart, reflections of the things I’ve felt, questioned, learned, and embraced along the way. I hope you listen with open ears, open hearts, and allow each song to meet you wherever you are in life. Most importantly, I hope you enjoy this new chapter of ‘love? or something like it’.”

‘love?… or something like it’ unfurls less like a faithful memoir, and more as a series of nuanced, non-linear sketches on romantic realism. The storybook symphony feel of the intro, with its lush string sections, multi-tracked harmonies and celestial imagery, foreshadows an experience that could be anodyne or sanitised.

But with the ensuing tracks – the syrupy ‘overtime’ and the inspired jazz-rap ditty ‘know about me’ with GloRilla – Bailey isn’t concerned with presenting an inversion of her lived experience, but an unadorned account that is shaped by every contour of her reality.

Bailey commenced her solo career with debut single ‘Angel’. Prior to that, she signed to Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment as part of sister duo Chloe x Halle. Together, they released two acclaimed albums, ‘The Kids Are Alright’ and ‘Ungodly Hour’, earning multiple Grammy nominations along the way.

Tune in now.
