Is there any hidden meaning in the GTA 6 trailer song lyrics?
When you look at the lyrics to Tom Petty's Love Is a Long Road found in Trailer 1, it really does seem like there are some shared themes and vibes between the two, especially now Trailer 2 is out with more info on the official GTA 6 page, which has the following about Jason meeting Lucia:
"Meeting Lucia could be the best or worst thing to ever happen to him. Jason knows how he'd like it to turn out but right now, it's hard to tell."
The following lyrics help paint the picture of what we can expect between the pair.
"There was a girl I knew" — this opening line is perfect, considering that GTA 6 appears to have the franchise's first female protagonist. Her name seems to be Lucia.
"She tried to make my world, the way she thought it should be" — the trailer shows Lucia and her partner embracing a life of crime, perhaps to try and counteract some unfairness in the world and rearrange their life.
"Yeah, we were desperate then" — again, this makes us think of Lucia and her partner, and the sort of story that could revolve around them. Are they getting into a tight spot and turning to heists and such to get out of it?
"Love is a long, long road" — romantic love seems to play a big part in the story, with Lucia and her partner in bed and talking about trust at one point. Plus, if the rumours about the GTA 6 map size are true, it seems likely that the game will feature lots of driving and plenty of long, long roads.
"I would wake up at noon [...] I would wait for the moon" — okay, this one is a stretch, but now we're wondering if the game will have a full day-and-night cycle where different things happen depending on the time of day.
"Yeah, it was hard to give up, Some things are hard to let go, Some things are never enough" — greed is a key theme in many gangster movies. And if this really is a Bonnie and Clyde-style doomed criminal romance, this line could point to that feeling of escalation as one crime leads to another and perhaps our heroes get a taste for it.
"I guess I only can hope, For maybe one more chance, To try and save my soul" — this dramatic line near the end of the song really hammers it all home. Lucia is the core of the story, and her life of crime could have some kind of noble purpose behind it, but what will become of her soul as she travels down this dangerous path? We'll have to wait and play the game to find out, of course.
Hidden meanings in Trailer 2
Now with Trailer 2, the song that underscores much of the trailer is Hot Together by The Pointer Sisters. With much of Trailer 2 looking like it's from early in the game, this is no doubt highlighting Jason and Lucia's renewed relationship after having been apart.
While the lyrics are great, it does repeat itself a lot, and so it doesn't feel quite as nuanced in that sense as Trailer 1, but much more is shown in Trailer 2, meaning it's not really left to our imagination, but there are a few things to note.
"We could be so hot together" — the emphasis being on "could". With Lucia being the "best or worst thing to happen" to Jason, this feels slightly ominous.
"We happened to be at the same party [...] We left it up to chance" — we still don't know how Lucia or Jason met, and it could imply they met at an actual party, or as part of a gang of crooks on the job.
"The way we moved with each other [...] We could dance this dance forever" — did they meet dancing together at the club, or did the job they worked on together go so well? Every relationship needs good chemistry when it comes to heists after all...
Full lyrics for the GTA 6 trailer songs

Below are the lyrics for each song featured in GTA 6 Trailer 1 and Trailer 2.
Love Is a Long Road lyrics
There was a girl I knew
She said she cared about me
She tried to make my world
The way she thought it should be
Yeah, we were desperate then
To have each other to hold
But love
Is a long, long road
Yeah, love
Is a long, long road
There were so many times
I would wake up at noon
Yeah, with my head spinning 'round
I would wait for the moon
And give her one more chance
But love
Is a long, long road
Yeah, love
Is a long, long road
Yeah, it was hard to give up
Some things are hard to let go
Some things are never enough
I guess I only can hope
For maybe one more chance
But love is a long, long road
Yeah, love is a long, long road
Love is a long, long road
Yeah, love is long, long road, oh
Oh, it's a long, long road
We could be so hot together, hot together
We could be so hot together, together
We happened to be at the same party
We left it up to chance
I'm remembering the time you kissed me
Now you're asking me to dance
The way we moved with each other
We could dance this dance forever
We could be so hot, hot together
Hot, so hot together
Wherever else you get down
You've got to free it up
We could be so hot, hot together
So hot together
We both know that it could feel good, so good
You led me through the crowded room
And out into the night
You kissed me like you did before
In the quiet of the moonlight
We're wondering if the other's alone
And thinking about taking it home
We could be so hot, hot together
Hot, so hot together
Wherever else you get down
You've got to free it up
We could be so hot, hot together
So hot together
We both know that it could feel good, so good
We could be so hot together, hot together
We could be so hot together, together
The way we moved with each other
We could dance this dance forever, forever
We could be so hot, hot together
Hot, so hot together
You can feel good, so good
We could be so hot, hot together
So hot together
We both know that it could feel good, so good
We could be so hot, hot together
So hot together
We could be so hot, hot together
So hot together
