Brooklyn-born, Southeast London-based artist today shares his new single ‘Shouldn’t Be’, featuring J (Ezra Collective).

Lifted from forthcoming EP ‘Bean Pie’, Gumbani fluidly ruminates over a mercurial jazz backing courtesy of Armon-Jones.

“It kind of just spoke to me,” Gumbani says of the number. “That song and I just had a little dance-off, and I was really happy with it when it came to the end. It was more truthful than I was willing to admit at the time.”

Where 2025’s ‘Warlord of the Weejuns’ was a collaborative record Gumbani likened to a gumbo, the 5-track ‘Bean Pie’ takes a more freeform, propulsive approach, gathering songs from different points into a cohesive whole.

Beyond Joe Armon-Jones, Franky Bones, Blk Deco, and Velveshun have co-produced tracks on the EP.

As Gumbani explains:

“These songs came from different moments. Some are fresh, some have been sitting around and changing shape with me. They each have their own flavour, their own little world. Somewhere along the way, I started thinking about them like the different beans that go into a bean pie, separate things, picked up at different times, but once you put them together, they become something else.“

With ‘Bean Pie’, Goya continues to move between disciplines on his own terms, finding beauty in understated, less boiled down songs.

The EP lands October 23rd via Ghostly International.
