Santa Monica Studio seems to have taken some inspiration from Rockstar, as the developer has just announced a delay with the next instalment to its God of War series.
The new instalment, God of War Laufey, is centred around Kratos's deceased wife (and Atreus's mother), Faye, as she navigates the afterlife, also known as the Everywhen. The game was originally supposed to see a release date of 16 February 2027, but this has since been shifted.
The new release date was announced by Santa Monica Studio on social media, with a statement that read: "Since the reveal of God of War Laufey in June, we’ve been deeply grateful to see so much excitement for Faye’s journey through the Everywhen.

"We don’t take for granted the trust placed in the studio to make an extraordinary experience worthy of the passion and dedication of our fans.
"With this in mind, we’ve made the decision to delay God of War Laufey’s release to May 20th 2027."

This new release date is only a few months off the original, and still within the same year, so fans won’t have to wait too much longer to play through Faye’s story.
And with a female protagonist played by Deborah Ann Woll, a female director (Ariel Lawrence) and a team of female writers behind the project, this is the first female-led God of War game in what will hopefully be a fresh perspective on the series.
Santa Monica Studios' post finishes with: "We will make the most of each moment until then by putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to its fullest potential.
"On behalf of everyone on the team, we appreciate your patience and we’ll be back to share more updates soon!"
While delays are never ideal, it seems that Santa Monica Studios are communicating clearly with their fans, with hopefully more updates to follow.
But for now, God of War Laufey will have to cook just a little longer before we can get out hands on the game.
God of War Laufey will (hopefully) release on 20 May 2027.
