Girl In The Year Above have signed to and shared new single ‘Wet Paint’.

The much-tipped group shared a string of wonderful singles over the summer months, in addition to a flurry of essential, packed-out gigs. ‘Mama, My Heart Is Achin’’ and ‘Ode To The Glory Days’ were independently released, with Transgressive winning the battle for their signature.

Celebrating the union, new single ‘Wet Paint’ is out now. Sweeping, brooding, highly literate and liberating alt-pop, it’s led by frontwoman  magnetic vocal.

Reminiscent of Bat For Lashes or even Kate Bush in places, ‘Wet Paint’ – “don’t touch!” – feels like a self-contained word, a mini-manifesto from the potent new group.

Out now, ‘Wet Paint’ is accompanied by a video overseen by  and Jen, capturing Girl In The Year Above at their most precocious and powerful.

“Through writing the lyrics of Wet Paint together – Jen and Jeanie soon realised how painfully relatable this topic is, yet so rarely talked about. The song’s story starts lightly to draw the listener in until you gradually realise it is about consent. With a heavy topic it was important to us that the track still felt bright and powerful. We hope it mimics the likeness of anyone who can relate to the track – in the sense that you are bright and powerful no matter what. We would love for this track to bring joy and defiance, feel free to shout/dance/laugh/weep etc.”
