The group will release new album ‘This Was Once Fields’ on October 16th, and the lyrics were spawned from long walks around the green belt that extends across London’s periphery.

Songwriter channelled those experiences into his work, with ‘This Was Once Fields’ becoming an analysis of his push-pull relationship with London.

Set to complete a full UK tour this November, Gently Tender have just shared absorbing new song ‘Don’t Sleep’.

Out now, the song conjures an inky, twilight atmosphere, the subdued sonics redolent of those long nocturnal walks around London’s environs. There’s beauty here, too, with Gently Tender channelling another lesser-seen side of life in metropolitan London.

Songwriter Sam Fryer shares: “‘Don’t Sleep’ is about the feeling you get when you’re driving through a city at nighttime. I call it an Uber Pop song because whenever I listen to it, it sounds like I’m in a late-night cab. I’m wrestling between love and hate for the city. When I scream ‘I love this place’ it’s almost through gritted teeth. Over the years I have struggled with London – but when I reflect upon it – I have to pay my respects to how it’s shaped my life artistically.”
