Friendly Fires detail fourth album, Dig Deeper

will arrive as Friendly Fires' first new album in nearly a decade, following 2019's . Lead single "Magnetic" lands as the introduction to the collection of songs, as the pair explain: "Attraction is a force so strong it can be beyond our control," the band say. "What we want and what we should do aren't always the same. Can you ever take charge over something so powerful?"

In making , Ed Macfarlane and Edd Gibson started peeling back layers following a period of uncertainty and personal challenges. "We had 100 ideas that never saw the light of day and songs that were finished but still didn't feel right," Macfarlane explains. "We were unsure about what the point of this was and what we're about."

"There were things that Edd and I had never discussed before," he continues, "like a friend of ours passing away when we were younger. And then a dear friend of mine also died during the making of this record."

The pair also got back into the key influences at the heart of Friendly Fires, referring to a playlist spanning Talking Heads and New Order to Balearic. "We were able to look through that lineage and see ourselves as part of it," Macfarlane says. "This is some of the best music we've written. Doing something truly honest, putting it out there and hoping it connects with people – that feels like a huge leap of faith for us."

Ahead of the album's release, Friendly Fires play Moth Club in London on 24 September. They also have US dates supporting Two Door Cinema Club, and EU shows in Berlin, Amsterdam and Paris in January 2027.
