After Ex:Re’s self-titled debut in 2018, Tonra had not intended to make another record under the name, but in 2023 she took sketches of songs she had been working on into the studio with producer Fabian Prynn, who has worked on released from caroline, Hayden Thorpe, and Adult Jazz, as well as producing the debut. The duo’s musical compatibility resulted in . The record features Josephine Stephenson on cello, Hinako Omori on synthesisers, Ben Reed on bass, and Jethro Fox on electric guitar.

Speaking to the lead single, Tonra says the changing radio station is a metaphor for how she feels about her mind – "the push and pull of different feelings, and I end up getting stuck because I can’t make decisions," she said. The song is formed from snippets of her memories and scraps of overheard conversations.

Ex:Re will perform a run of in-store shows during release week: Rough Trade East in London on 30 October, Resident in Brighton on 31 October, Jumbo Records in Leeds on 4 November, Jacaranda Basement in Liverpool on 5 November, and Truck Store in Oxford on 6 November.
