will release new album ‘Blue Reservoir’ on February 19th.
The legendary group – helmed by Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn – returned in 2023 with the , a work of twilight electronics.
Helming regular live shows at key East London venue the Moth Club, the pair have allowed this sense of live performance to permeate their songwriting once more.
As a result, new album ‘Blue Reservoir’ is another moment of inflection. “There was an intensity and simplicity to the MOTH shows that took us back to how we started out,” says Thorn. “Direct, rooted in guitar and voice, a few extra colours. We hadn’t been in that world for a long time and it just felt fresh and real.”
Ben Watt began playing a nylon string guitar, the same kind of instrument that he cherished as a youth. He says: “It is the sound of so much of the music I first connected with growing up, and I’d never actually owned one. It became quite an emotional springboard for me. I found a voice I thought I’d lost.”
Comprising ten original songs, the album was recorded largely live at RAK Studios in London over ten days in July 2026. ‘Blue Reservoir’ will be released on February 19th and you can pre-order it now.
New single ‘Young And Dumb’ is out now – a light, airy piece of smooth pop, the Bossa overtones make for something innocent and pleasingly joyous.
