England football legend tipped to join I'm A Celebrity 2026 two years after wife's successful run

Wayne Rooney is reportedly in advanced talks to join the next series of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, two years after his wife Coleen finished runner-up in the jungle.

According to The Sun on Sunday, the former Manchester United and England captain is in negotiations with ITV and would become the show's "biggest signing ever" if a deal is done.

A source told the publication: "Wayne is in advanced talks for I’m A Celebrity and if they secure him, he’ll be their biggest signing in the show’s history.

"Coleen proved to be hugely popular when she took part two years ago and bosses think Wayne is going to match her success. ITV have been in negotiations with him for some time and are thrilled that they’ve reached this stage."

A spokesperson for ITV told Radio Times: "Any names suggested for I’m A Celebrity are just speculation."

Coleen previously appeared on the show in 2024 and was popular amongst viewers, finishing as runner up. An insider claimed that the former footballer was keen to do the show after seeing how much Coleen enjoyed it.

They added: "Wayne wants to show their sons what their dad can do and has joked he’ll be giving Coleen a run for her money. He is really competitive and hates losing so will give I’m A Celebrity his all."

The 10-part series, which premieres on Thursday 24 September, follows Coleen and Wayne Rooney as they invite cameras into their home for a pivotal year in their lives.
