Texas-raised musician   shares his new single ‘THAT KID’ featuring  , out via Ninja Tune.

Following the release of lead single ‘DON’T BE A RUNNER’, ‘THAT KID’ proceeds with a similar sense of musical abandon – a tender, folk-infused reverie recorded in a hotel room one night on the road.

“‘THAT KID’ really speaks to something I’m passionate about — our relationship with time and how we see ourselves as we get older,” notes Skinner.

The number is lifted from Skinner’s forthcoming debut solo EP ‘How Far We’ve Come’, out September 18th, which aims to go beyond capturing the pursuit and experience of love, to tales of friendship, community, the doubt that can fill your mind and make you question your worth, and the feeling of getting older and returning to the wonder in childhood.

Skinner’s interior sound is informed heavily by the Black Radical Music Tradition. Skinner spent a decade in New York City learning what community, practice, and art mean to him.

Skinner continues: “There is no other way to describe my music other than Black. Following in the footsteps of my ancestors and inspirations – the sonic experimentation, the self realisation, the expression as a necessary tool for survival – to not only pursue to understand oneself, but to understand others.”

He’s worked alongside artists including Chaka Khan, Jon Batiste, Chance the Rapper, Saya Gray, Eryn Allen Kane, Leon Bridges, Samora Pinderhughes, Amos Lee, and more, and now steps into the light as a fully-formed musician in his own right.

Skinner performed at Giles Peterson Presents: We Out Here Festival this past weekend, and will be supporting GENA (Liv.e + KarriemRiggins) today at OSLO in London.
