Dutch Uncles Confirm New Album ‘Polygon Hotel’

will release new album ‘Polygon Hotel’ on February 19th.

The long-standing art-pop wonders are firm CLASH favourites, and news of their return has caused us to come over all a-fluster.

New album ‘Polygon Hotel’ was stirred into life by the band’s Duncan Wallis settling down in Levenshulme with his family after more than a decade on the road. A fixed location charmed him, with his observational eye spinning Dutch Uncles’ songwriting in different directions.

He describes Levenshulme as a place where “the identity of being a musician/lyricist was nonexistent in my mind, which allowed for a very unguarded processing of the new surroundings.”

Landing on February 19th, ‘Polygon Hotel’ will be followed by a full UK tour, including a show at London’s 100 Club on March 18th.

Produced and mixed by the band and mastered by Felix Davis, new single ‘No Notes’ is a superb piece of art-pop songwriting, like a kind of Kinks lyric sheet re-tooled by Roxy Music; the marimba line came first, before being sampled and interpolated by the wider group.

A lament at time lost to our phones, it comes coupled to a video created by cult animator , who early PlayStation-inspired graphics – the band star as themselves, fighting outside a Greggs and seizing hold of a speedboat from a junkyard.

explains: “A three minute lament on time wasted looking at one’s phone. Specifically, time spent on social media and a regret that so much of our lives has been invested into the engine of social media, just for it to be snatched up and controlled by the worst people imaginable.”

He adds: “And, somewhat ironically considering it’s a reflection on time wasted, it only took 5 minutes to write the lyrics.”

Tune in now.
