Stockholm-based artisthas released her debut album, ‘Kira Krash’.
CLASH placed DJ Suzy in our list of Artists To Watch last year, after the release of her acclaimed 2024 project ‘Haunted Discs’.
Named after her antagonist alter-ego, the 13-track ‘Kira Krash’ is an altogether fuller and more immersive experience inviting listeners into a dollhouse fantasy that’s equal parts dreamy and destructive. Co-created with Oscar Scheller and close collaborators Osrin and Elvira Anderfjärd, ‘Kira Krash’ is a confection hit of weightless synths, G-funk basslines, Alt-pop, R&B and breakbeat.
“Since 2019, I’ve had the idea of creating an alter ego in the form of a doll. Over time, my relationship with her has grown as I’ve continued to explore her world, touching on themes of shame, unrequited love, neglected feelings, addiction, escapism, sorrow, and grief,” DJ Suzy shares.
“Through this album, we get to experience Kira’s world, which is a part of myself. It’s about the fear and the courage it takes to be true to yourself.”
With the album release comes a video for focus track ‘dream’, directed by Nemo Hinders and filmed in Gothenburg, Sweden using the set design from a theatrical production based on George Orwell’s novel 1984. This gives the video a surreal, unsettling atmosphere, almost like being caught in a nightmare.
“The song itself is about dreaming of a boy and the future we could have had together. But that’s really just the surface of it, and I didn’t want the video to simply portray me searching for him in my dreams,” reveals DJ Suzy. “I think what I’m really battling in my dreams is myself, my fears of letting go, and perhaps a desire to flea reality. After all, that’s what Kira symbolises.”
