1. What did you make of The Witch by Freida McFadden?  In classic Freida fashion, The Witch is a page turner and I was curious to see how it would unfold. I have to say I read this in no time at all so it certainly had my attention. Having only read The Housemaid of McFadden's other novels, I had expectations of a pacey and unpredictable plot and it did not disappoint. I particularly enjoyed the two parallel narratives jumping between the past to present and how the two wove together as new information came to light and provided clues for each perspective. I found myself questioning every character's motives and changed my mind on the goodies and baddies many times as well, finding myself a little protective over the protagonists themselves. I also loved the spooky elements and how they concealed the inner goings-on of the house (no spoilers!). At the time of reading, I felt that some of the twists and cliffhangers throughout were slightly over-explained or given away a little too early. However, as the book went on and when the ending hit I was undeniably surprised.
2. Who would you recommend it to and why?  Anyone who loves a little bit of spooky but especially anyone stuck in a reading rut who needs a page-turning thriller to get them back into it!
3. What star rating would you give it?  3.5
