As we wait for news on the future of Doctor Who, with the show being put out to tender, unsurprisingly all the attention is currently on who will produce the show, what form it will take in the future and when it will return.
Less thought is being put to who will play the Doctor when it returns, with Ncuti Gatwa having bowed out of the role last year. Will it be Billie Piper, as suggested by the ending of the most recent episode, The Reality War? Or will someone else take the role on?
One name who has never been far from fan castings is Michael Sheen, who just happens to be a good friend and co-star of 10th and 14th Doctor star David Tennant. The duo has previously worked together on shows including Good Omens and Staged.
Now, Tennant has addressed the potential for Sheen to be cast, revealing his thoughts on whether his co-star would make a good Time Lord in an interview with Doctor Who Magazine.
When asked whether Sheen would be any good in the role, and whether Tennant would be "furious", if he was cast, the actor responded: "What a loaded question that is! Obviously, he'd be brilliant, and obviously I would tell him exactly how to do it, and he wouldn't listen to any of my advice.
"It would be amazing if Michael did it, but who knows? I think it really is impossible to say until you know what the plan is - otherwise it's just pure speculation."
Sheen is currently busy regardless, as he has been cast in the second season of Murderbot, will soon be seen in The Celebrity Traitors season 2 and will also be hosting House of Games, after Richard Osman stood down from the role.

Recently, Piper opened up on her surprise appearance in The Reality War, telling the crowd at the For the Love of Fantasy & Sci-Fi convention in London that she is "not the next Doctor", before clarifying that she is "Rose Tyler in hiatus".
She explained: "Sorry, that's a really cryptic answer, but because I'm not currently filming Doctor Who as the Doctor, I can't lie and say otherwise."
