Coronation Street's Ryan Connor star begins work on new project away from ITV soap

Corrie's Ryan Prescott has revealed that he has begun filming on a gritty new movie miles away from his ITV soap character.

The actor, who plays Ryan Connor on the long-running Manchester-based soap, has landed a role in a new drama called Waif.

Going from the Coronation Street cobbles to the East End, the comedy-drama is set in "London’s world of skateparks, guitar shops and art openings" according to IMDb.

Prescott will play Noah, a "drifting art curator" who is trying to make a life for himself.

Two men talking, one has his back to the camera, while the second is looking worried at him. He is wearing an open, bold patterned yellow and brown shirt over a white t-shirt.

Filming began in London in mid-October, with Prescott now sharing a first look behind the scenes of the project.

Posing for a photo with writer/director Rocky Rodriguez Jr and Trigger Point actor Jason Flemyng – who plays a character called Miles in the comedy-drama – Prescott proudly clutched a clapperboard showing off the project's name.

Uploading the photo onto Instagram, he added in the caption: "We are rollllliiiing, first week into the WAIF shoot and loving it, thank you all for the amazing energy on set!"

In other pictures from the shoot added to the collection, Prescott posed with actor Dexter Fletcher in a courtroom.

Fletcher, who is most recognisable for his roles in Band of Brothers and Hotel Babylon, plays Judge Rodney Bax QC.

Newcomer Helen Foster will star alongside him as "freewheeling single mum" Clem, with the synopsis warning "with social services watching, this community of slackers must grow and not give in."

A release date for the film is yet to be confirmed.

Currently, Prescott is still on our screens on Corrie as Ryan Connor, and has been part of the main cast since 2019. He is the third actor to take on the role.

The actor has previously stepped away from the series, with Ryan disappearing briefly in 2023 after the character was outed for his affair with Daisy Midgley.

He later returned, only to become central to a storyline in which he became addicted to steroids.

Most recently, he's been seen as a source of firm-but-fair support for Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) who has been left feeling guilty after a sex act with Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) resulted in her having a stroke.

But things are about to get complicated for Connor as he discovers a pregnancy test belonging to his love interest, Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon).
