Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul will release their new album ‘Mainland Madinina’ next year.
The duo combined for the excellent 2022 collaborative release ‘Topical Dancer’, a neat synth-fuelled alt-pop inquisition.
Out on February 5th, ‘Mainland Madinina’ will be released through DEEWEE / Because Music, and it benefits from the extensive input of Soulwax.
The title refers to the duo’s respective places of origin – for Pupul, that’s mainland China and Hong Kong (for his grandparents and mother respectively), with Madinina representing the Indigenous name for the Caribbean island of Martinique, where Adigéry’s mother was born.
Written in Ghent and Martinique, the record was then constructed in Belgium alongside Soulwax, Stephen and David Dewaele.
“They’re people who can really inspire us when we get stuck – they invite us to go deeper, to really grasp the intention behind the song,” Adigéry says. Adds Pupul: “They’re still the musical chiropractors – they really know where to push when stuck.”
Set to play a full European tour in Spring – including HERE @ Outernet on March 4th – the album is led by new single ‘From Healer To Dealer’.
A witty, tongue in cheek dialogue between “Grace” and “Ruben” – two wellness-obsessed maniacs who Adigéry and Pupul use to pick apart, often in ridiculous fashion, the language of wellness and health culture.
