**Warning: The below article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for The Celebrity Traitors season 2 episode 1!**

When Richard E Grant was chosen to be a Traitor in season 2 of The Celebrity Traitors he was beside himself with excitement, so much so he revealed himself as a Traitor in front of the cast!

Yes, you read that correctly, upon being questioned by Joe Lycett if he was a Traitor, the actor responded and said he was.

The silence couldn't have been more awkward – and while some of the celebrities brushed it off as the actor's sense of humour, others were not convinced.

The moment came as a shock to Grant himself, who said in his confessional: "Well, that may be the biggest mistake I have ever made in my life. I was so thrilled to have been chosen as a Traitor that, in my unguarded excitement, I said, 'Of course, I'm a Traitor.' I clearly need to defuse all the heat that's coming in my direction."

But no one could have been more aghast than the production team, watching it all unfold in real time...

Speaking of reacting to the moment, executive producer Sarah Fay told press including Radio Times: "It was a mixture of a little bit of sick coming up in my mouth and a punch at the same time. We've never had anything like that happen before. I mean, within five minutes of being out of the roundtable, he'd already mucked up!

"I still can't believe it now. But yeah, I mean, how iconic! And as producers, you always want to make sure the series are fresh and new. And we've been very lucky so far. We've just come back from filming our seventh series.

"We've just finished civilian, and every single series, luckily, the cast brings something completely different. But never in our wildest dreams did we think that we'd have a Traitor admit they were a Traitor five minutes after the roundtable."

The closest to a Traitor reveal by a Traitor themselves was during the last season of Celebrity Traitors, when Alan Carr giggled nervously when saying he was a Faithful – something no one picked up on.

Jerry Hall was quick to Grant's defence, telling the others: "I just don't believe Richard's a Traitor. I know Richard. I've known him 30 years, and he's my neighbour. He says and does eccentric things. He's an amazing guy, but I think he's, like, acting out because he's not been chosen."

Traitors Uncloaked host Ed Gamble said of the moment: "It felt like he felt like he'd been given the lead role in the film, and he just had to tell everyone. But it's such an insane moment. I hadn't even arrived in Inverness.

"I watched the Traitor selection, and then I was like, 'Right, well, I better go and pack for Inverness.' And then next thing you know, my phone's buzzing on the Uncloaked Group, going, 'You will never guess what's happened!'

"This is why you never stop watching the feed because something like that could happen. And what an amazing moment! Such an insane way to start a brilliant series."
