Box office smash hit documentary You Can See Everything set to campaign for major Oscars - and could make best picture history

Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s Elizabeth Holmes documentary You Can See Everything is set for multiple Oscar submissions - including best picture.

The 3-hour film from A24, which shadows the Theranos founder 34 days before she’s sent to prison, is a box office smash hit that opened to an extraordinary $15 million domestic box office over the weekend - the second-biggest documentary opening ever after Michael Moore's 2004 film Fahrenheit 9/11.

The critical reception has also been very positive, with the film achieving a near-perfect score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes.

As seen on A24’s awards site, the documentary will be submitted for the 99th Academy Awards in categories including best documentary feature, best picture (Nathan Fielder, Lance Oppenheim, Tatiana Bears, Maggie Ambrose and Jack Davis), director (Fielder and Oppenheim), production design (Alex DiGerlando and Rebecca Meis), cinematography (David Bolen) and costume design (Katina Danabassis).

It will also be campaigned for film editing (Adam Locke-Norton), makeup and hairstyling (Stephanie Pasicov and Kerrie Smith), sound (Paul Hsu and Richard Carlos) and original score (Ari Balouzian).

Amanda Seyfried, who appears in the film as herself while also reprising her role as Holmes from The Dropout, will be campaigned in the supporting actress category, according to Variety.

The nomination would mark her second following 2020’s Mank.

Theranos founder Holmes was convicted in 2022 of one count of conspiracy to defraud investors and multiple charges of wire fraud against investors for lying about the effectiveness of her company’s core blood-testing technology. She was sentenced to more than 11 years in prison.

Her crimes have previously been chronicled in books, podcasts and the Hulu mini-series The Dropout.

You Can See Everything sees Fielder, Oppenheimer and a film crew follow Holmes in her home 34 days before she's imprisoned for her crimes, with Fielder and Oppenheimer becoming embroiled in the story as they begin to suspect Holmes and her husband are hiding information from them.
