Although a more modern shonen anime compared to those that came before, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations still has a sizable amount of filler you’ll need to skip if you want to only stick to what’s manga-canon.

Since first airing all the way back in 2017, quite a lot of filler has dropped in the show, but still nowhere near as many filler episodes as in the original Naruto anime and Shippuden.

Like in other anime, the idea of filler in Boruto isn’t to take away from the original story; it’s still the same original ninja adventure about the titular son of Naruto, Boruto, in his own sequel series. Instead, the point of filler is to help avoid the anime catching up with the manga, giving the authors more time to create new chapters for the adaptations to, well, adapt.

The anime is currently on hiatus, but if you want to catch up to the pure manga-centric story in as little time as possible before it’s back, here’s the full list of Boruto anime episodes you can skip.

How much filler is in Boruto: Which episodes can be skipped?

There are some chapters that are a mix of both filler and manga-canon, but there are currently 102 episodes of Boruto that are considered pure filler, out of its 293-episode run— which are indeed fully skippable if you just want to follow the core story of the anime with no inconsequential side-arcs.

Confirmed after going through reports by Anime Filler List and Crunchyroll, these are the exact filler episodes you need to look out for:

• Episodes 96-97: Post-Parent and Child Day Arc
• Episodes 112-119: Post-Steam Ninja Scrolls Arc, Konohamaru’s Love Arc
• Episodes 232-281: The Funato War Arc, Kawaki Goes Undercover Arc, Labryrinth Game Arc

By skipping all of these arcs and their skippable episodes, you’ll be able to hopscotch over to what’s regarded as both manga-canon and anime-canon episodes without feeling like you’ve missed anything important.

Which “anime-canon” episodes of Boruto are essential to watch?

Boruto is one of those confusing anime shows with both manga-canon and anime-canon episodes, the former adapting the original manga by author Masashi Kishimoto, and the latter being made exclusively for the anime adaptation.

Among the non-filler episodes of Boruto, there are a lot of both manga-canon and anime-canon installments, but these particular anime-canon episodes are what we’d recommend as a must-watch:

What is the difference between anime-canon and filler?

The difference between “anime-canon” and “filler”, though, is that whilst filler episodes are isolated chapters which don’t really change anything by the time the anime gets back to the manga-faithful material, anime-canon Boruto episodes enhance this adaptation’s story by serving you better character introductions, development, and world-building.

Of course, you can follow Anime Filler List’s lead by only viewing episodes specifically with material from the manga, but including anime-canon installments in your watch will make the experience far more enjoyable.
