The second season of Mark Gatiss's detective drama Bookish is finally almost here, with fans excited to see what's next for Gabriel Book and the other characters on Archangel Lane.
As well as the cases and period setting, one of the elements from season 1 which most grabbed people was the exploration of a lavender marriage, as Book, a secretly gay man, is in a marriage of convenience with his best friend Trottie, so he can keep his secret while she still engages in casual relationships.
This time around, the series will be introducing a new character in the form of Colonel Winters, who is played by Gatiss's Sherlock co-star Rupert Graves.
Speaking with Radio Times, Trottie star Polly Walker teased that her character and Winters form a relationship in season 2, which leads her to question her arrangement with Book.
"She goes for a seance and meets a guy there and keeps bumping into him and begins this friendship, and it develops into a relationship, as it were," Walker said.
"And it forces her to question, is she entirely content with the arrangement that she has going with Book? So she has to do a lot of soul searching, and maybe she wants to end it all with Book?"
Meanwhile, when asked about the potential jeopardy still in play for Book and Trottie were their arrangement to be found out, Gatiss said: "We're trying to show it's a dangerous world for Book and for Trottie too, because their arrangement suits them both, but it's not without it's dangers. We’ll see a bit of that, but it's not what the show's about.
"So I want to make sure that it's done in increments that are interesting and illuminating, but it's not – until it maybe is – the actual plot of the episode. But yes, we do see a bit more of it fraying at the edges."

Gatiss previously teased that Bookish season 2 will be "more ambitious", and revealed that the third and final story will see his character take a trip to Germany.
The season will also feature a host of new guest stars, including the likes of Jason Watkins (McDonald & Dodds), Miranda Richardson (Blackadder), Simon Callow (Doctor Who), Claire Skinner (Outnumbered) and Youssef Kerkour (Gavin & Stacey).
Bookish season 2 starts at 8pm on Wednesday 26 August on U&Alibi.
