Source Material Vol. 1 will be Kolontyrsky's second solo album, following his 2025 debut Origination. Across five tracks, Kolontyrsky explores the space between atmosphere and expressive guitar work, with "The Mysterious Alignment" landing as the first taster of the new work.
Source Material Vol. 1 was written and recorded at Kolontyrsky's home in Denver, Colorado, and first performed at Steve Roach's SoundQuest Festival in summer 2026. The performance helped shape the album's structure and sequence, giving it the flow of a live concert. Kolontyrsky wrote the songs between Blood Incantation tours, exploring his interest in experimental ambient music, as well as cosmic and celestial sounds built on analogue synthesis inspired by 1970s German ambient albums.
"I wanted to create a hazy-dreamlike state to lose oneself within," Kolontyrsky says. "The material is of course still very atmospheric in nature but there is something to grasp onto within each track, like the running waters in the central theme of the record."
