Black Doves has exploded back onto screens with another thrilling season, which sets the stressful life of spy Helen Webb (Keira Knightley) to another superb soundtrack.
In addition to the retro jazz and soul tunes that help give the story an atmospheric feel, there are a number of modern songs in season 2 – including one that might come as a surprise.
No spoilers here, but let's just say that an Olly Murs hit plays a surprisingly prominent role in one of the show's action sequences. Creator Joe Barton has revealed that the decision was inspired by a particular chapter of his own life.
"[Murs] was very game and generous with his licensing rights," said Barton. "That song came about because I went through a period with my youngest son, when he was eight, where we would play it at every bath time.
"It became like a Stockholm syndrome situation where I ended up quite liking it too. It popped back into my mind when I was thinking about Keira's character Helen, and how her kids in the show are roughly the same age as mine."
Barton added: "Whenever I get the chance to mash together her home life with her spy life, that's always a fun thing to do. So yes, we have a gunfight to Olly Murs, which has to be a first for British television."
Murs is one of several clashing artists suggested for a so-called 'murder mix' – a kind of twisted hype playlist – masterminded by eccentric assassin Williams (Ella Lily Hyland).
Notably, the first season of Black Doves boasted a new cover of Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down), recorded by Raye, which makes a return this time around.

Who sings the Black Doves season 1 theme song?
Raye sings the theme song to Black Doves, which is a cover of Nancy Sinatra's Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down).
She is the latest in a long line of artists to perform the track, which debuted on Cher's second album in 1966 before Sinatra's downbeat rendition came along later that same year.
Other singers to have tackled Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down) include Caroline Polachek, Dua Lipa and Lady Gaga, so Raye is certainly in good company.
