Leeds musician has shared his new single ‘June Bug’.
The songwriter is a fixture on the city’s music scene, a potent performer and an eager collaborator. Emerging from the same community that has spawned Mercury winners English Teacher, Adult DVD, and Far Caspian, Big Warm Bed recently signed to independent imprint Dance To The Radio.
Out now, new single ‘June Bug’ has a soothing, melodic quality, while also addressing a powerful sense of loss.
Beautifully done, the single recalls Nick Drake in places, or even Sufjan Stevens, while you can also hear aspects of the perennially underrated Lambchop in the arrangement.
The single comes with a striking live clip, shot in The Calm Room, a mid-century studio space in Leeds.
Speaking about the meaning behind the song, Jacob shares: “it was inspired by a note my mum wrote to me, my brothers, her best friend, my aunties and uncles and her partner to read after she had died. In the section directed to her friend, she thanks her for being a supportive friend and giving her the strength to go through with things that she otherwise would just bury her head in the sand and ignore.”
Tune in now.
Big Warm Bed will be supporting at Belgrave Music Hall in Leeds on December 2nd.
