Atwell explained that the album title comes from a line in the lead single, "Glass": "I knew I wanted to name the album after a line in this song as it feels like the heart of the record. Sometimes, an eagerness to be seen and understood can have the opposite effect – you can be so transparent that you end up invisible.” She added that as a teenager she took a personality test in which participants imagine a cube: “All my friends and family pictured various different sizes and colours, while I saw a transparent glass box floating in space.”
The new record follows 2024’s and was shaped by a spontaneous move to Canada, where Atwell lived for nine months in Quebec. It is her first for the Vancouver label Nettwerk, home to Alice Phoebe Lou, Night Tapes, and Ladytron.
