has a tendency to speak her mind. She can’t help it – honesty is something she prizes, and the London artist lets this trickle down in to her records.

Take her latest EP. A triptych of dating experiences, ‘Should I Block Him?’ resonates with truth – it’s about satisfactory dates, knowing when to cut ties, and when to move forwards.

A spicy alt-pop elixir, the bulk of the EP was written during a writing trip to LA. “I think there’s something silly and sad about the way romance works now,” she recalls. “I was being ghosted and feeling quite cynical and lonely – the pinnacle was being alone in my hotel room on Valentine’s Day. I thought I had wasted the trip, but on the last day we listened to these three songs, and I felt so inspired and excited that something good had come out of feeling so low.” 

YAZ adds: “The three songs are about navigating modern dating – breakups, situationships, mixed signals and caring too much about someone who probably isn’t thinking about you. It’s some of the most fun and honest music I’ve made.”

Last week the radiant London singer took control of the YUGU Store in Hackney for a special fan-only launch party, an intimate event that saw fans hear the EP before anyone else.

But that’s not all – alongside a few beverages you could pick up some merch, get snapped in the photo booth, and take part in a hilarious near-the-knuckle pub quiz, hosted by Lewys Ball (a friend of YAZ who runs the PUH-LEEZ! pop culture pub quizzes).
