The BBC has released a statement reiterating its pride in Newsnight, amid reported staff fears for the programme's future.
The BBC is looking to save £500m over the next three years, and has already made cuts to the long-running news programme, getting rid of its investigations team and changing the format so it runs for half an hour rather than 45 minutes.
Now, a staff member on the show is said to have told The Sun: "Everyone is concerned for Newsnight and how it will fare in the next cuts. We've been warned there are likely budget reductions and revisions next year. It's a worrying time."
Responding in a statement, a BBC spokesperson said: "We're very proud of Newsnight's success; since its reformat, it has significantly increased its audiences, won an RTS award and is now being moved to a peak-time slot on Friday evenings.
"As we have said, the BBC needs to save £500m over the next three years and BBC News will play its part in contributing to those savings."

Newsnight has been on the air since 1980, and is currently hosted by Victoria Derbyshire, Paddy O'Connell and Matt Chorley. Past presenters have included Peter Snow, Jeremy Paxman, Jeremy Vine, Laura Kuenssberg, Emily Maitlis, Lewis Goodall and Kirsty Wark, among many others.
In June, the BBC announced it is to cut 550 roles across the corporation’s News, Nations and Content divisions as part of the first phase of its plan to save £500m over the next three years.
The move will also see £80m stripped from commissioning spend across Content, News and Nations, while the BBC will also review broadcast TV channels and radio network portfolio as audiences move further online.
