RuPaul's Drag Race UK is leaving the BBC after eight seasons, with the broadcaster confirming the competition series will move to a different streaming platform.

The BBC has said it was facing "very difficult choices" as it works to deliver significant savings, and that future runs of the show, along with its spin-off vs The World, will air on Wow Presents Plus, the platform run by World of Wonder.

The current season, which launched last week, will continue to air as normal on BBC Three and appear on iPlayer, and all existing seasons will remain available once the move is complete.

Alongside the news, it's also been confirmed that previous show favourites will return for Drag Race UK All Stars, due to premiere in autumn 2027 on Wow Presents Plus.

A BBC spokesperson said: "As the BBC continues to navigate significant financial pressures and deliver the savings required of us, we have had to make some very difficult choices, none of which have been taken lightly.

"We can therefore confirm together with World of Wonder, that RuPaul’s Drag Race UK will be leaving the BBC and moving to WOW Presents Plus.

"The BBC is incredibly proud of all 11 series of this groundbreaking show and we would like to thank RuPaul, World of Wonder and everyone involved, both on and off screen. We are certain that viewers will enjoy the eighth series, which is currently airing on BBC iPlayer and BBC Three."

RuPaul's Drag Race UK first began in 2019, and has helped bring British drag into mainstream entertainment and made household names of performers such as La Voix, Danny Beard and Tia Kofi.

The show sees drag queens compete in a series of challenges to impress judges RuPaul, Michelle Visage, Graham Norton and Alan Carr, alongside big-name celebrity guests.

Earlier this year, the BBC announced it was cancelling LGBTQ+ dating shows I Kissed a Boy, which made history as the UK's first gay dating show, and I Kissed a Girl, saying there were no current plans for them to return amid funding challenges.

A spokesperson said at the time: "We are exceptionally proud of I Kissed a Boy/Girl, the UK’s first dating show for the LGBTQ+ community.

"We would like to thank our fabulous Cupid Dannii Minogue and the entire team at Twofour for bringing the series to screen.

"Unfortunately, we have to make difficult choices in light of our funding challenges and there are no current plans for the show to return."
