Australian quartet The Gnomes announce new EP, With A Gnome

follows the band's — formed by vocalist and guitarist Jay Millar, guitarist Ned Capp, bassist Olly Katsianis and drummer Ethan Robins — debut EP released back in May arrives with the new single "Batteries", which is said to depart from their Mersey beat-inspired debut, as well as the garage rock-inspired "Anything You Need".

"This song is kind of a trap," says Millar of "Batteries". "It's The Gnomes' softest and quietest song and also our loudest and heaviest. I used a cheap plastic fuzz pedal held together by duct tape for my guitar sound and we tried a few different amp and pedal combos for Ned's guitar. There's only two guitar tracks in the chorus, it's all balls and volume instead of 50 layered guitars and studio magic."

was produced by Amyl and the Sniffers guitarist Dec Mehrtens, who says: "I like The Gnomes because they're versatile, but their attitude has continuity. They can reimagine themselves however they like."

"One night during the recording of this EP, Ned and I slept at our managers' studio," Jay explains of the experience. "We woke up on the floor to Dec kicking us out because the Sniffers were rehearsing that day. After walking downstairs in nothing but boxers and socks, we awkwardly met Amy Taylor. Then Ned and I sat half asleep in the kitchen while the Sniffers rehearsed upstairs and wrote the lyrics and harmonies for Batteries."

The Gnomes made their UK debut earlier this year with multiple appearances at The Great Escape in Brighton, before playing headline shows in London, Glasgow and Manchester. They are set to return for a UK/EU tour in November, which will include a date at The Shacklewell Arms in London.
