returns with bewitching new album ‘The Meaning Of Flowers’.

The new album is her first in over six years, and it was born from pregnancy, motherhood, and extensive sessions at her Berlin studio.

Citing the poetry of Enheduanna (the world’s first named author) and the ideas of philosophers Hannah Arendt and Emanuele Coccia as points of inspiration, Agnes Obel’s brooding new chapter is also informed by Danish synth pop from the 80s.

Out now, ‘The Meaning Of Flowers’ is all hushed atmospherics and subdued tones, a song cycle that allows the Danish-born, Berlin-based artist to relish under-statement.

The cycle of life underpins the songwriting, with pregnancy and a desire to re-root herself forming and over-arching theme.

“I wanted to see if I could get close to the feeling of a new beginning,” says Obel of the title track.  “It shows itself in the experience of interconnectedness and a new expansive feeling of love that will never end. The point when the inner monologue becomes something interactive and expansive – beyond your own life – and opens your mind to a new and richer notion of life.”
