Opening up the season alongside British producer-slash-DJ Actress, A-COLD-WALL* probes at urban existentialism in its latest campaign: A-COLD-WALL x Unseen__Werk featuring Actress*
Shot across the streets of London, director Nick Griffiths traces the city’s journey over the last decade, embracing its architecture as a work in progress. Throughout, each shot evokes the spirit behind the 2012 Olympics, a period that shifted the landscape of East London and laid out a fresh blueprint for regeneration.
Fusing sportswear with industrial palettes informed by post-war Britain, ACW* continues to reference domestic cultural frameworks, studying its social climate through a unique lens. Within the same breadth, Actress proposes a singular approach to electronic music, a dedicated, experimental force who keeps things unabashedly underground.
It’s a sentiment that interweaves itself across the collaboration, which seizes the opportunity to merge forces and celebrate a shared understanding of DIY culture. Take Darren Cunningham’s entry point into production: the result of a football injury that redirected his focus towards DJing – a self-taught trajectory shaped by the influence of Detroit techno. With his forthcoming album, ‘Radical Frame’ on the horizon, Actress draws his attention to his live performance, joining London’s programme for Pitchfork Music Festival.
Elsewhere, A-COLD-WALL* centres itself in raw, industrial mechanics, outlining the connection between the utilitarian and the formal. The campaign demonstrates key pieces from the label, a defining selection of ribbed knits, lightweight waterproofs and accessories.
For A-COLD-WALL x Unseen__Werk featuring Actress*, the team additionally unveil an original composition from Darren Cunningham himself, delivered over an accompanying short film. The pair will celebrate the collaboration this evening at Below Stone’s Nest, hosting sets from – you can reserve your spot on the guestlist here.
