A Hawk And A Hacksaw Announce New Album ‘Volume 8’

A Hawk And A Hacksaw will release new album ‘Volume 8’ on February 5th.

The long-standing project was formed by Jeremy Barnes (of ) in 2002, before – his partner in music and life – joined in 2004.

A full, intricate, and rewarding catalogue was built, before A Hawk And A Hacksaw took a back seat a decade ago, with both Jeremy and Heather busy with collaborative and solo ventures.

Now they’re back, with news of their first album in nine years. Jeremy notes: “A couple things happened in 2026 that made me want to document what we have been doing more formally and to go out and tour again”.

Heather adds: “After all the war and atrocities that have been happening in Ukraine, Palestine, and Iran it felt we needed to say something through our music.”

New album ‘Volume 8’ is out on February 5th via Rocket Recordings, and the endless store of folk song from Turkey – and the legacy of the Ottoman Empire – is a source of inspiration.

New song ‘Gayda’ is out now, and it speaks to this passion for folk song. “Many of the traditional songs we recorded, like ‘Gayda’ are incredibly old, probably pre-Christian and considered Kurdish or Turkish or Armenian depending on who you ask” reflects Jeremy. “Some of our influences have moved further back in time, but the geographic areas are the same.”

Tune in now.
