300SkullsAndCounting and have released their new album ‘THIS IS SPA TOWN!’.

The release has split the internet down the middle, with the pair’s DIY sound – bassline by way of screamo – joining the dots between 2008 boredom and 2026 ennui.

Comparison have been made to Hadouken! or even Late Of The Pier, but to CLASH, it sounds essentially like two kids in Stratford making a racket.

Lead single ‘The Ballad Of St Nick’s Park’ sets the tone, with its serio-comic / don’t-take-this-too-seriously barrage of ideas flitting from melodic whimsy through to all out noise.

Other highlights include the chiptune meets first wave grime by way of Enter Shikari (!) of opener ‘100% Legal Intro’, the Gamboy melody patched on to lovelorn songwriting of ‘I Have The Pineapple’, and ravey finale ‘Are Mum’s’.

Are they for real? Has this been done before? And does it truly matter?
